Elfamorphosis
It started with a link from my friend Wendy in Australia. Then I created my own dancing elf here --Elf Yourself: A Gift from OfficeMax
I photoshopped my dancing elf and her dancing elf together and made a composite picture of the 2 elves. Aussie Wendy passed it on and we were soon joined by her nephew Brett and his wife Jo as shown in the photo. Its been elfing hilarious and I welcome anyone who wants to join the group and add your elf. So what are you waiting for? Make an elf out of yoursELF.

Amazon Unbox problems
:» Amazon Spends Over A Year Developing Movie Download Service Then Shackles It With Absurd Restrictions
"Amazon launched it’s new Unbox Video service yesterday. After reportedly over a year of development, the new service allows movies to be permanently downloaded for the same price as purchasing the physical DVDs from Amazon or rented for 24 hours for $3.99. Unfortunately, Unbox is has so many restrictions that it is unlikely to make very many people happy and it’s license agreement breaks new ground in absurdity.
Amazon had the chance to do something revolutionary. If they released a service that let customers immediately download movies and watch them on their DVD players, they would have a serious shot at some of Netflix’s record profits and 5.169 million subscribers. Instead, they gave into movie industry demands and spent a year and untold dollars developing an over-priced service plagued with unreasonable restrictions:"
I will, at a later date, describe the horrors I have gone through trying to see one simple 1.99 video from the TV show 'Rock Solid'. This is clearly not one of Amazon's better ideas.

neo-neocon: So, why "neo-neocon"?
"The LEFT has yet to get around to acknowledging Reagan being instrumental winning the Cold War. The MAIN square in WARSAW was renamed for Reagan, but that is irrelevant for the left. So if they haven't gotten around to conceding what Reagan did, do you really think they are going to make any concessions to GW, while he is still in office, and they are still trying to politically wound
him."

Farmington Daily Times - San Juan County celebrates the holidays
"San Juan County celebrates the holidays
By Andrea KoskeyThe Daily Times
Article Launched:12/03/2006 12:00:00 AM MST
FARMINGTON — Farmington's Christmas Parade, which once lit Main
Street with decorative lights and festive ornaments, is no more."
Fortunately I read the rest of the article rather than stopping with the introductory sentence. Yes Virginia, there IS a parade! I'm not sure about an editor though.

News from Trevor
I've kept this blog up to date on what Dallas is doing but have an update finally on the events of my oldest son's life in northern BC.
While recovering from recent back surgery Trevor has been using his creative side and has produced these masterpieces... definitely some skilled craftsmanship at work. The jury is still out on how the back surgery went but hopefully he finds some degree of success.
You can see more pictures by clicking on the title link above.

My Son has Wings
Dallas phoned last night after we had gone to bed making it plenty late in GA but he was pretty excited. He had just gotten back from his first night jump -- and it was awesome. He described it as 'Alone in the clear black darkness with not a sound other than the distant drone of the plane and the flutter of the chutes occasionally interrupted by a barked command regarding the target location -- and after landing I laid back to undo my chute and looked up into the night sky and stars and thought to myself -- I just came from up there."
Today is his qualifying jump and then tomorrow morning he gets his wings and is off to RPFT and hopefully a day or 2 to allow his shin splints and stress fractures to heal.

Ft Benning
From Albuquerque to Houston to Nashville to Birmingham to Columbus, Katy and I made it for Dallas's grad. He is currently in Airborne Training.
The trip back was Georgia to Birmingham to Phoenix to Albuquerque. I got home about 2:30 a.m. and had to leave for Durango airport at 3:30 to fly to Des Moines.

Low flight to Denver
On Friday I found out how long it takes to drive to Denver -- and back. Jim's daughter was en route from Oregon to North Carolina with a layover in Denver. I decided it was a good chance for me to finally meet Alissa and the boys. I left here right around 5 a.m. and arrived in Lafayette (just north of Denver) at 1 p.m. After a great visit, lunch and some time in the park at Boulder I headed back home at 6:30 p.m. and was back home and glad to be crawling back into bed at 1:30 a.m.
Note to self -- the 160/ 285 is a better route than the 160/ I-25.

On Busy Days
Though late to wake she quickly moves to start her daily chores
The email shows two orders in, tomorrow would be more
Once printed out she finds her cup and to the kitchen goes
Then steps outside to weed and prune and move the water hose
While cleaning up the clippings she pulls hoses to and fro
Without the extra water most the plants would fail to grow
Back in the shop she starts to get the orders set to print
Then wanders to the hill to pull more weeds around the mint
She comes in through the front door and grabs a bite to eat
Then takes it to the office where she tries to keep things neat
Another order soon comes in while on her site she works
And always in the background, the admonitions lurk
She hears about her laziness, her failure to be neat
She hears that spending money is to bring her to defeat
Yet still she tries to carry on and do her several tasks
Make lesson plans, fill orders and do other jobs when asked
En route now from the bathroom, the laundry fills her arms
She pulls clothes from the dryer as the iron quickly warms
Then back outside she moves the hose and turns the water off
Still hearing voices tell her that she never does enough
Her classes will be starting and she needs new handouts done
Then she sands a pile of boxes and tells herself its fun
While in her head she calculates the profits to be made
She shuts the waiting iron off as plans begin to fade
Its getting close to dinner time, a meal to be prepared
She checks back on her mental list to see how she has fared
While loading up the dishwasher she feels that she has lost
Accomplishments were broad and wide and yet she missed the most
She sits beside him on the couch, her first rest of the day
Yet relaxation passes by as plans get in the way
Tomorrow if she finds the time the dusting will get done
Build a shelter for the garden to protect it from the sun
Finish up the orders and get them on their way
Tidy up the counters where the piles of papers lay
She drags herself to bed that night, her mind and body spent
Ashamed of all her failures asking where the hours went
As sleep climbs on she hears again the things she hasnt done
And feels the pain so often come though she has told no one
The shaming statements come to mind just as she falls to sleep
An ugly thought invades her dream, not one she wants to keep
That when her breathing stops and her heartbeat is no more
They write upon her tombstone, She didnt sweep the floor
